The modern creation process
Technological progress has made it possible for us to pass on our written works without any great risk. However, progress is not all good. To get information about self-publishing, we often turn to the internet, sometimes Google, sometimes YouTube, depending on where we find the answers we need.
However, if you deal with these topics for a while, the algorithm quickly sees through this and suggests "similar" or "matching" videos. To our regret, these videos then very quickly have nothing to do with the original idea of writing for the sake of writing.
We as a society are now almost only interested in Success, It's no longer about how or why you do something, it's all about the result. For this reason, we try to eliminate the journey, which is supposed to be the goal.
On my YouTube homepage, I now receive an outrageously large number of videos that are all about generating books with ChatGPT and then selling them on Amazon. Of course, Amazon has already adjusted its guidelines and now only allows publishers to publish three books a day. But this figure in and of itself shows just how insane the whole issue has become.
Furthermore, not only are readers being sent books with no content, many authors are also suffering because their books no longer have a real chance of being listed well on Amazon with this flood of content.
But this is not just a problem that we notice on Amazon. A friend and I have been selling clothes with various designs online for a while, but since AI "art" has been around, it's almost impossible to compete with the endless stream of content. What is particularly worrying is that it is impossible to distinguish between what is created by humans and what is created by machines.
We don't want to demonize this new technology here, because it definitely offers a lot of potential, but it should be used with caution.
If you have had similar experiences or have noticed in other areas that AI-generated content simply washes away the content created by humans, please let us know your opinion in the comments.
In addition to the punishment of those who create their works in the traditional way, there is another fundamental problem.
While one could argue that the current effects are normal and simply part of technological progress, there is no denying that the elimination of effort - in this case through the use of AI - makes things less important.
What we used to see in certain areas has now broken down the boundaries of almost every sector. For example, whereas not so long ago the work of carpenters became almost obsolete as mass-produced goods made the craft almost redundant, we are now faced with a much more ubiquitous problem:
Almost every creative expression can be largely or completely taken off our hands by AI. From images and texts to music and videos, the idea can seemingly be realized by itself. The results are usually impressive or even impressive - at least objectively. After all, it is hardly our own achievement and pride and satisfaction seem to have stolen away with the intermediate steps in the creative process.
Anyone who thinks this is a problem for artists is mistaken. This bland taste remains even after acquiring information, writing an email or not brainstorming.
But how can this be prevented? Probably the simplest, but also the most unrealistic approach would be to do without AI. A more practical approach would be to use AI sensibly. Let it support you, but don't do without all processes and celebrate the efforts of certain activities.
